The story about “Julian Rachlin and Friends” Festival started in 2000 as Maestro Julian Rachlin performed for the first time at Dubrovnik Summer Festival. For him it was the love at first sight with Dubrovnik. He then created a vision of a summer music festival in this town. The first chamber music festival entitled „Julian Rachlin and Friends“ took place a year later, in 2001. Maestro Rachlin invited his friends who became equally mesmerized by Dubrovnik. Today, eight years later, some of the most famous musicians in the world come to Dubrovnik as guest performers at the Festival, among them celebrated cellist Mischa Maisky, pianist Itamar Golan, violinist Janine Jansen and many others. The uniqueness of this musical event as well as its venue are best described by Maestro Rachlin himself. He says, „Never have I performed at any concert as in the Rector's Palace and this Festival in Dubrovnik presents a remarkable marriage of art and friendship and synergy rarely seen...“ In the last seven-year period Julian Rachlin & Friends Festival has become a mandatory music and cultural event on the map of Europe.
